Your Dental Implant Timeline

Your dental implant timeline will depend upon several factors, including the number of implants you receive and the type of restoration placed. However, for patients who do not require preliminary procedures, the entire treatment typically lasts anywhere from four to six months. To provide you with comprehensive care, Dr. Victor R. Siegel can perform all aspects of your dental implant procedure at our Rockville, MD, office. During your consultation, we can evaluate your candidacy, unique needs and goals, and design a custom treatment plan suited to you.

For patients who do not require preliminary procedures, the entire treatment typically lasts anywhere from four to six months.

Treatment Planning

The first step of dental implants treatment is a personalized consultation. During your appointment, we may take x-rays or other advanced images of your teeth and jawbone to asses the structure of your smile. For patients who have extensive tooth loss, it is common to suffer from jawbone deterioration as well. If you do not have sufficient bone tissue to support dental implants, we may recommend a preparatory procedure such as a bone graft or sinus lift for optimal success. We can also take this time to discuss your sedation options to ensure your comfort throughout treatment.

Preliminary Procedures

If you require a preliminary bone graft or sinus lift, you will need to undergo a full recovery before proceeding with dental implant placement. This can take approximately six to nine month.

Dental Implant Placement

If you are a candidate for dental implant placement, we can often schedule your surgery after your consultation. If you are receiving only a single dental implant, the procedure typically lasts 30 minutes to one hour. However, procedure time can vary depending upon the extent of your surgery. If you are having multiple dental implants placed, your surgery may last two to three hours.

Recovery

After your dental implant is placed, your body will begin to undergo osseointegration. During this process, your jawbone can fuse with the titanium surface of the implant, creating a strong foundation for restorations. This process takes approximately four to six months, during which we can schedule several follow-up appointments to ensure smooth healing.

Abutments

After your gums have fully recovered, you can return to our office to receive your abutment pieces. These small devices connect the dental implant to your restoration. Once we complete this minor surgery, you must wait an additional two weeks for your gums to heal before receiving your final prosthetic.

Final Restorations

After you have healed, we can take impressions of your smile. For the right patients we can use our advanced CEREC system to design and manufacture custom dental crowns in a single appointment. Our trusted dental laboratory can also fabricate a dental bridge or denture to meet your unique dental needs. After confirming that your restoration fits comfortably in your smile, we can secure it in place, revealing a new and improved appearance.
