At this time of year, most parents are busy preparing their children for another school year.  Please take a moment and also make a dental visit to the office of Dr. Victor Siegel, part of your child’s back to school routine.

Why are regular dental visits so important?  The United States Surgeon General has identified tooth decay as one of the most prevalent childhood diseases.  However, dental decay is entirely preventable with regular dental check-ups and cleanings and proper oral care at home.  The key is to begin these healthy habits at a young age so that they carry on and prevent future damage as we age.

At your child’s dental visit, our dental hygienist serving Rockville, Gaithersburg, Bethesda and the surrounding areas,  will professionally clean your child’s teeth, take xrays if necessary, polish the teeth and apply a fluoride treatment to strengthen the teeth and protect them. She will also review with both the parents and child the best ways to take care of their teeth at home, including proper brushing and flossing techniques, and possibly even tweaking the child’s diet to benefit their oral health.

The exam by Dr. Siegel, your Rockville dentist, will gently check your child’s teeth, gums, jaws, head and neck for any concerns.  The doctor’s exam may confirm that everything is developing properly, or it may allow him to catch problems related to growth, habits such as thumbsucking that may affect development, or even breathing and airway issues. Regular dental exams, recommended every six months for most patients, will allow Dr. Siegel to remain aware of your child’s growth pattern and habits and advise you as parents what action may be necessary in order to prevent any damaging problems in the future.

An unhealthy mouth may lead to a toothache or other oral health problems.  That in turn may cause your child to have difficulty eating and talking, which may lead to problems concentrating in school.  Put a dental visit to Rockville dentist Dr. Siegel on the to do list, along with the new backpack and the school supplies.  Your child’s dental health, just like their education, is a priority!
