Protect Your Oral Health with Regular Dental Exams
If it has been more than six months since your last visit to a dentist, it's time to schedule a comprehensive dental exam at our office.
Dr. Victor R. Siegel in Rockville, MD, recommends biannual exams for every patient. He uses the latest technology to detect and treat oral health concerns in the earliest stages. By undergoing regular exams, you can easily and affordably avoid the need for more extensive and costly oral healthcare.
Comprehensive Oral Examinations
The Importance of Regular Exams
Institutions such as the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry recommend that you bring your child to the dentist as soon as their first tooth appears. After that, biannual visits to the dentist are usually sufficient unless you are at high risk of oral health concerns because of systemic conditions such as diabetes or habits such as smoking.
Because oral health issues like gum disease have been linked to heart disease and other serious systemic issues, regular visits to your dentist can also promote your overall health.

What to Expect during an Exam
Dr. Siegel usually takes about an hour with every new patient to get to know you, your needs, and what brought you to our office. Next, your exam will consist of:
X-Rays
Our office uses digital X-rays, which are safer and faster than traditional X-rays. Dr. Siegel will use these X-rays to identify issues such as infection and cavities.
A dental exam is one of the most affordable ways to keep a healthy smile for a lifetime.
Visual Exam
Dr. Siegel will check your gums, teeth, and other soft tissues for any signs of complications. If your gums show deep pockets, you may have gum disease. He will also check your bite and jaw joints to identify signs of temporomandibular joint (TMJ) disorder.
Oral Cancer Screening
Dr. Siegel also uses VELscope® technology to perform oral cancer screenings during dental exams. This device uses fluorescence to highlight cancerous lesions that might not be visible to the naked eye.
Cleaning
One of our highly trained hygienists will perform a dental cleaning using gentle and effective techniques to remove plaque and tartar from your teeth. We will then polish your teeth with a special toothpaste. To help you keep your smile clean at home, we will also provide useful brushing and flossing coaching.
If Dr. Siegel identifies any oral health issues during your exam, he will explain these issues and your treatment options.
Cost of a Dental Exam
A dental exam is one of the most affordable ways to maintain a healthy smile for a lifetime. Because it allows Dr. Siegel to detect cavities, gum disease, and other issues before they become too serious, the exam can also save you money in the long run.
Most insurance plans cover two dental exams per year. Our team is happy to work directly with your insurance provider to secure the most coverage possible for all applicable services. For patients who do not have insurance, our in-house Smile Club dental savings plan includes two doctor exams every year in addition to other benefits.
